Basic” is the 17th episode of season one of Generator Rex and the 17th of the overall series. It debuted on November 5, 2010.

Overview[]

Rex and Noah make a bet on who can last the longest at Basic, the training ground for new Providence's military might. As they go through all the rigorous training, both begin to realize that being a Providence soldier isn't as easy as it seems, especially Rex since he has to do most of the challenges on equal terms with Noah (without his EVO powers).

Plot[]

In the midst of playing Basketball with Noah, Rex is notified of a level 2 EVO alert in the vicinity. Rex helps out the agents, and dismisses their efforts in stopping the EVO. In response, one of the agents, Beasly claims Rex could never do what they do, without his powers and that he wouldn't even last a day in boot camp. Noah comments on how tough Providence's Basic Training program is, and a bet emerges between the two, on who could last longer in Basic.

At the boot camp, things go from normal to worse for both. The drill instructor berates recruits at every moment, many of the exercises are harsh, and the punishments are severe. In one incident, the trainees objective was to safely crash-land a falling plane. Rex immediately starts to save some people, but unfortunately for the cadets, the instructor orders them to re-do the process. Due to this, Rex's recruit and teammate Kenwyn loses some points. After a couple more activities, the scores are released, with a disappointed Kenwyn who lost her first place position in the class. Rex is blamed for this, and he tries to apologize, but Kenwyn frustratingly tells him off for risking her life's dream to repay Providence for saving her family. Later Rex, Noah, the drill instructor, Kenwyn and some other cadets oversee a final exam where students are locked in a cut-off area of the camp called the Cage with captive EVOs.

Basic Rewards

Rex lies and covers for Kenwyn just as she is about to admit the truth.

However, things go from worse to horrifying, when Kenwyn sabotages the collars for Rex's exam as he had previously “crashed and burned” her grades. Her plan failed unexpectedly, as the drill instructor suddenly instructs Kenwyn to go in instead. One by one, all the imprisoned EVOs get free. Rex, Noah, Kenwyn, the recruits and the drill instructor prepare themselves to take down the EVOs, and in the process both the cadets develop a new-found respect for each other. Rex even goes so far as to cover for Kenwyn as she is about to tell the truth about the incident and gives her all the credit. The Instructor (who appears to know the truth), tells Rex and Noah to keep up the good work, before both of them proceed to hit the steps. Both begin to understand the effort the soldiers put in. The episode ends with another bet on who can reach the bottom first.
