Plague” is the 18th episode of season one of Generator Rex and the 18th of the overall series. It debuted on November 12, 2010.

Overview[]

A mysterious virus is causing everyone on the globe, except EVOs, to fall into a deep sleep. Therefore, Rex is tasked, along with Holiday, to find out the cause. When he and White Knight are the only ones left awake, Rex has no choice but to team up with him in order to save everyone!

Plot[]

118-Sleeping people

Everyone with nanites falls into deep slumber.

White Knight takes the helm of narrating this episode's grim turn of events. A powerful virus breaks out, causing everyone on the United States continent to fall into an inescapable slumber within 3 hours, except for active EVOs. The strangest thing, despite being an EVO Bobo Haha appears to be influenced by the virus. Remaining partially affected, Rex is rendered the only line of defence for those helpless to the plague and must tend to the everyday maintenance of the city or else things will fall into irreparable chaos.

Dr. Holiday states that time is of the essence, because they only have sixty hours at best until all the unconscious people begin to die from dehydration. Doctor Holiday has managed to keep herself awake by attaching electrodes to her temples that will stimulate gentle electrocution to her brain whenever she becomes drowsy. Unfortunately, White Knight clarifies that this is a risk she will not be able to keep up for much longer, stating that the electric shocks can potentially cause irreparable brain damage.

White Knight dispatches Rex to dozens of emergencies in nearby cities to try to lower the death toll, such as stopping a runaway train and prying an EVO fish monster out of a dam. Meanwhile, Holiday is finally able to build a tracking device designed to locate the source of the plague but is soon forced to go to sleep due to the removal of her electrodes. Angry at White Knight for not doing anything to help the situation, Rex decides to go after the source of the virus by himself.

118-White Knight

White Knight comes out of office, armored.

White Knight, unaffected by the virus due to being nanite-free and living in a sterile office, decides that there is too much at stake to let Rex go alone. White Knight uses an armoured, weaponized Hazmat suit to help Rex fight off EVOs that are rampaging freely.

Their goal now is to locate “Patient Zero”, an EVO whose nanites have commanded dozens of viruses to simultaneously evolve into the virus that currently grips the continent. When it seems that Rex cannot cure the EVO, White Knight attempts to kill him. However, Rex realizes the risk in White's actions and tells him to stop.

118-Rex cures Patient Zero

Rex cures Patient Zero.

Rex and White Knight come to blows over the disagreement. During the fight, White Knight reveals that he is completely nanite free—which is why he is head of Providence and why he lives in a quarantined room. Rex eventually persuades White Knight to give him another chance to cure the EVO. Suddenly, the EVO manifests a living incarnation of the virus around itself to act as a protection. This forces Rex to enter the EVO's mouth to cure it from the source, while White Knight holds it off. The EVO attacks White Knight, breaching his suit.

After successfully curing the EVO, Rex escorts White Knight back to Providence in time to be quarantined, leaving him nanite free. Holiday, now awake, is proud of Rex for figuring things out on his own and for saving White Knight from being infected by nanites. Afterward, it is revealed that Bobo was not affected by the virus, but was sleeping off a massive food coma he suffered from a party he had the night of the outbreak.
